About the object: Elina Martian's vases captivate with their ornamentation with regular patterns and their special feel. Elina turned the vase on the wheel and decorated it by hand. The inside and base of the vase are glazed in a mint color, as is the pattern, so that it shimmers depending on the incidence of light. The pattern can be felt and the surface of the vase feels like a stone that is pleasant to the touch. The vase is approx. 17 cm high and 13 cm wide at its widest point.
Manufacturing process: This vase is made from a cream-colored stoneware mass. Before firing, the pattern is sketched onto the clay and then carved into the clay line by line. Elina fires her vases at 1230 degrees. Apart from these details, the outside of the vase remains unglazed so that the raw clay can be seen and felt.

- Elina Martian ceramics can be washed by hand if necessary. Use clear water or a maximum of gentle cleaning agents and no abrasive sponges.
- Dry the container carefully after cleaning to avoid water stains.
- Ceramic pots can be rougher on the underside than pots made of other materials. We therefore recommend protecting sensitive surfaces on which the vessel is to stand from scratching if necessary.
Elina Martian (born 1989) makes ceramics under the artist's name "Frau vom Mars" (Woman from Mars) in her studio in Tarp, near Flensburg.
As a trained communication designer and alongside her work as a freelance documentary photographer, Elina has found her creative home as "Frau vom Mars" in decorated ceramics and illustrated art prints.
"Working with my hands, feeling the material and the long time I spend with just one piece makes this work something special for me."
Elina creates stoneware ceramics with a clear yet playful style. She works with different types of colored clay, which, depending on their texture, feel rough or like smooth stones that have been polished on their journey and by the weather. The ceramics are turned on the wheel and then elaborately decorated with regular patterns. Elina sketches the patterns onto the wet clay and then patiently carves them into the clay line by line.
"I particularly like to leave the outside of the ceramics completely or partially unglazed, so that it is a tactile experience to stroke the surface and feel the contrast between the unglazed and glazed surfaces."
This is how many unique pieces are created in the studio of the woman from Mars, no two of which are the same - mugs, cups, bowls that accompany people through everyday life and remind them of small moments of pause. Or vases, lights and other decorative objects that can emphasize a warm, special ambience at home."
We at haptik are very happy that Elina has made the long journey from Mars and has arrived in our neighborhood!
