      Marie Martin

Marie Martin grew up in the French Alps as the youngest child in a large family. She spent a lot of time in nature as a child and discovered the joy of pottery on her own children's pottery wheel at the age of ten.

In 2007, she began her ceramic training with a Chinese teacher in Shenzhen. Eight years later, she moved to San Francisco, where she researched materials and developed her personal style at a local university and historic studios such as Sharon Art Studio.

Marie Martin began experimenting with lettering on ceramics in 2015. Seven years later, she succeeded in developing a special tool with which she can precisely apply her characteristic letter reliefs to wheel-thrown stoneware. Today, her unique ceramics are created on a large, old wooden table in her workshop in Spain, always accompanied by music and a cup of green tea.

Her aim is to capture the essence of our time with the texts on her works and preserve it for future generations. Memories, traditions and personal experiences are Marie Martin's inspiration. Her ceramics can be read as artefacts of contemporary civilization that constantly evoke new emotions and stimulate reflection.

The artist herself says: "I start from a simple but powerful idea. A ceramic can break in an instant, but it can also defy time and last for millennia. The clay becomes the medium through which I can leave a lasting impression."

The timeless aesthetics of her work and the ability to customize the lettering according to her clients' wishes create a special connection between people and objects.
