Asta Volkensfeld's work focuses on the themes of origin, identity and transience. Her ceramics appear clear and structured due to their geometric patterns, while at the same time they are touching due to their beauty of form and functionality. The objects develop a quiet presence and enter into a subtle dialog with the viewer.
Asta Volkensfeld was born in Eutin in 1981. After training as a dressmaker in Hamburg in 2005, she attended the School of Textile Design in Berlin from 2015 to 2018. In 2021, she began her ceramics training and collaboration with Marie-Annick Le Blanc. She has lived in Brandenburg since 2022 and runs her own studio in Groß Köris, where she offers courses and workshops. She has been a member of GEDOK Brandenburg since 2023 and was awarded the DA! Art Award in 2024.
The focus of her artistic practice is on ceramic objects using the build-up technique and their refinement in smoke firing. She produces her ash glazes herself. The natural color tones and multi-layered surfaces of her works emphasize the close connection between nature, man and craft that is inherent in her works.
