About the object: Carolin Ludwig's glossy white glazed vase is approx. 17 cm high and has a diameter of approx. 18.5 cm. The shape of the bulbous vase with its slender foot is based on a classic amphora and its low center of gravity gives it amazing stability, especially when filled with water. Very beautiful with fresh or dried flowers, but also looks great without any floral decoration.
Manufacturing process: The vase is made from recycled mixed clays and is wheel-thrown by Caroline. It is glazed black on the inside and glossy white on the outside and fired at 1250°C.

Carolin Ludwig's life is characterized by art, design and nature. She grew up in the medieval ceramics town of Siegburg and, even as a child, was a keen collector of natural materials such as moss, stones and earth, with which she played and experimented. After studying design, she worked for many years as a photographer and picture editor at various publishing houses.
A decisive turning point in her professional career came from her fascination with the meditative properties of pottery. "Clay," says Carolin, "is a medium that you never stop learning. It's a medium that constantly surprises you, opens up new possibilities and grounds you. It brings you back to yourself, teaches humility, mindfulness and slowness. Nothing happens quickly, everything takes the time it needs. That's why I love it, the sound."
Today, the artist goes on her own treasure hunts in nature, just as she did as a child. She collects earth, seeds, stones, sand and much more, grinds it finely and works it into the surface of the wild clay, which she also collects herself.
The clarity, concentration and groundedness of the creative process are reflected in her finished works. They are characterized by naturalness, calm and a reduction to the essentials. Carolin Ludwig has been running her studio CL.AY since April 2025 in Hamburg, where she lives and works.
