Barbara Ebner from Eschenbach
About the object: This oval glass vase by Barbara Ebner von Eschenbach delights with its unusual shape and vibrant red tones. The handmade vase is approx. 17cm high, 15cm wide, approx. 7cm deep and weighs approx. 1.2kg. The regular pattern of the vases gives each piece an individual look. Small irregularities in the shape and color nuances result from the manual production method. Each vase is unique and hand-signed by Barbara Ebner von Eschenbach (BEvE).
Manufacturing process: Barbara Ebner von Eschenbach produces vessels and unique pieces according to her own design from the molten glass mass in an elaborate manufacturing process at a glass melting furnace heated to approx. 1200 °C. To produce a glass object, molten glass is removed from the glass melting furnace with the glassmaker's pipe, shaped and worked with various glassmaking tools and blown with lung power. The glass mass is colored during the manufacturing process with colored glass powder or colored cones. Barbara Ebner von Eschenbach obtains the colored glass for her glass objects from the Reichenbach colored glassworks in Lusatia. She uses various glassmaking techniques to create color gradients or patterns in the glass. After the final shaping of a glass object in the glass melting furnace, it is placed in the cooling furnace while still hot and slowly cooled from 510° Celsius to room temperature. As soon as the glass products have cooled down, some of them are processed by grinding the base.

Barbara Ebner von Eschenbach is a glassmaker who stands for clear shapes, bright colors and artistic color gradients. Her vases use light and reflection to create fascinating plays of color that bring rooms to life.
She completed her training from 2000 to 2003 at the Zwiesel Glass College in the Bavarian Forest. After working in Germany, Luxembourg and Denmark, she set up her own business in 2011. Since then, she has been producing her work in the Baruther Glashütte, around sixty kilometers south of Berlin. She is regularly represented at exhibitions and received the Bochum Design Award in 2018 for her vase with comb decoration created using traditional techniques.
In her workshop, she works directly at the 1200 degree hot molten glass. Using tools such as the glassmaker's pipe, a utensil that has remained virtually unchanged since ancient times, she shapes the glowing glass into unique vessels.
Barbara Ebner von Eschenbach says: "I have been working with this material for 25 years now. The molten glass mass still fills me with joy and the curiosity to keep learning from it."
