      Silke Wellmeier

After working as a florist, Silke Wellmeier (* August 1977) completed her training as a disc potter in 2000 and studied at the Institute for Artistic Ceramics and Glass in Höhr-Grenzhausen from 2001 to 2005. After completing her diploma in Fine Arts / Ceramics at the IKKG (2005), Silke Wellmeier has been working as a freelance artist since 2006 and opened her workshop studio in Tecklenburg (North Rhine-Westphalia) in 2016. She is a member of the Welbergener Kreis artists' association and regularly exhibits in Germany and abroad (France, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria).

Silke Wellmeier works with porcelain and uses this material to create thin-walled, simple forms freehand. She creates paper-like vessels, vases and objects with an organic-looking surface. During her studies at the IKKG in Höhr-Grenzhausen/Germany, Silke began with this type of construction technique and the material porcelain, and with time and experience (in the truest sense of the word "flair") she has continued to develop this technique. She has been a freelance artist since 2006. There are different series in her work, each of which is based on a different idea and intention. She usually depicts a particular theme or tries to make it accessible or visible in her own way.

Silke Wellmeier on her work: "In my work, I take an observational position in the microcosm that surrounds me. "Depicting" in the literal sense: reproducing with the material, with my hands. In this way, I try to understand processes in my environment differently...it is an artistic approach. I am also interested in using my manual, repetitive way of working to counteract the general tendencies towards acceleration and alienation. As an artistic form of research and dialog."
