Valentin Alscher (*1966) and Grisella Kreiterling (*1971) live and work in St. Pauli. Valentin Alscher studied fine art at the HfbK Hamburg under the sculptor Bogomir Ecker. Grisella Kreiterling earned her diploma in product design at the HfbK.
Clay in its own materiality and color characterizes the outer skin of the couple's ceramics, as Grisella Kreiterling and Valentin Alscher only glaze the inside of their ceramics transparently. Unagitated and pure in their formal language, they turn the ceramics freely on the wheel. The clay is fired twice to produce stoneware, which makes the ceramics resilient and impact-resistant, which is a necessary characteristic when used in the catering industry.
This makes Grisella and Valentin's tableware not only straightforward and simply beautiful, but also robust and durable.
