Silke Wellmeier, porcelain vase | 36cm, lime green (VP21)
About the object: Silke Wellmeier's porcelain vase is part of her Grascolors series and is shown here in a lime green version. The slim vase is approx. 36 cm high, has a diameter of 8.5 cm and weighs approx. 400 grams. It has a silky matt, paper-like surface that is very exciting to the touch and is glazed on the inside with a transparent glaze, making it waterproof.
Grascolors: This series by Silke Wellenmeier is about color gradients of drying grasses, which capture the fleeting color palette of grass changing over time. Silke Wellmeier first documented this color palette in photographs and then translated it into porcelain for her Grascolors series of vessels. There are around 30 different shades and gradations in order to get as close as possible to the natural variety.
Production process: Silke Wellmeier colors the porcelain mass by hand according to her own recipes. She builds the vessels themselves by hand, piece by thin-walled piece. The vessels are only glazed with a transparent glaze on the inside and only lightly sanded on the outside. This preserves the silky matt surface of the porcelain. Silke fires her ceramics at an oxidizing temperature of 1260°C, using the energy she produces herself. Beautiful and very sustainable!
